Art & Design
In this school we believe that Art and Design is a unique subject in as much as it allows children to express themselves in a very individual way. They have the opportunity to develop their ideas using a wide variety of artistic media, through which they gain a knowledge and understanding of their cultural heritage.
Art is valued highly as a resource and tool, through which we can enhance children’s understanding of other subjects. Achieving the Artsmark Gold award in 2012 for the fourth time reinforces the strength of art within the Arts in Abbey Park Middle School. The school takes an active part in Worcestershire County Council’s annual Arts event, Voices and Visions, submitting artwork for display in the associated art exhibition in the Worcester Cathedral.
We are also involved with a local project, run by Number 8 Community Arts Centre in Pershore, when visiting artists work with the children to help them with producing artwork; items of artwork are then selected by a panel of judges for display at Number 8.
All children will be taught the skills and knowledge of Art and Design as outlined in the National Curriculum. The requirements are for a balanced programme of art activities which build on previous work and achievements. They will be taught by specialist Art teachers in a well-equipped, purpose-built Art and Design room.
Abbey Park Middle School is proud to display the variety of artwork produced by the children around the school and, indeed, in exhibitions around the County.
