Year 7 Literacy and Numeracy Catch-up Premium
Y7 Catch-Up Premium 2018/19
The literacy and numeracy catch-up premium gives schools additional funding to support year 7 pupils who did not achieve the expected standard (a scaled score of 100) in reading and or/maths at the end of key stage 2. Using various interventions, we as a school focus on giving these students the opportunity to ‘catch up’ to their peers in year seven. Schools decide how this additional funding should be spent to best support the boosting of these young people’s progress.
In 2018/19 we will identify the Catch-up premium cohort and using the Question Level Analysis (QLA) of the KS2 SATS papers, pin point the key areas that these students may need additional support with.
This academic year 18 pupils have been identified as being below age related expectations in reading and a further 25 pupils were identified as being below age related expectations in Maths.
How we intend to spend our allocation for 2018/19
Maths Interventions
For those children who are below ARE will be taught in very small classes with high teacher to pupil ratios.
28 children didn’t get their SATS (3 of which didn’t actually take the test)
1 Maths IV with a TA focusing on a key area of maths (each child getting roughly 6 sessions each)
English/Reading interventions
For those children who are below ARE will be taught in very small classes with high teacher to pupil ratios – high amount of adults.
20 didn’t get their reading SATS (2 of which didn’t really take the test)
29 didn’t get their SPAG SATS (2 of which didn’t take the test)
1 reading IV with a TA focusing on a key area of English (each child getting roughly 6 sessions each)
How we spent our allocation in 2017/18
In September 2017, 21 students were identified as being below age related expectations in reading and 34 students were identified as being below age related expectations in maths. Abbey Park Middle School was allocated £9262.00 as part of the Catch up Premium to help improve learning outcomes for these pupils.
We provided a range of bespoke and individualised interventions for these pupils who were allocated support that was appropriate for their needs.
Maths Interventions
- 34 Catch-up premium students were taught Maths in small teacher led groups of approximately ten children. The teacher ran six one hour sessions focussing on the gaps as identified by the Question Level Analysis of the KS2 SATs.
- CFS IV slots daily – 20 minutes a day
- PiXL programme to catch up students.
- Small group IV (YR7 – girl catch up club with teacher)
English/Reading Intervention
- 17 Catch up students were taught English in a small teacher led group.
- Daily readers ( Ta’s allocated individual children to read with)
- CFS IV slots daily – 20 minutes a day
